Basic course of Transcultural Psychopathology

The first edition will take place in Rome on march 23, 2013. It is open to those operating in this field. The course is organized by Massimiliano Aragona and Francesco Colosimo on behalf of the Crossing Dialogues Association

The Italian Philosophy of Psychopathology

Graham and Stephens (1994) distinguish three ways of doing philosophical psychopathology: the first uses clinical findings to support ideas in philosophy of mind; the second is concerned with the experiential and ethical dimensions of psychopathology; the third looks at methodological issues in the scientific field of psychopathology. In Italy there is a long-lasting and strong tradition of philosophically oriented psychopathology (mainly in the mainstream of phenomenological thinking) and a more recent but very interesting debate in philosophy of mind discussing psychopathological, cognitive and neurophysiological clinical and research findings. The philosophy of psychopathology presented herein is mainly related to the third of Graham and Stephens’ ways of doing philosophical psychopathology; indeed, it is above all a methodological approach to psychopathology (closely linked to the philosophy of science but also opened to other disciplines) that eventually aims to improve psychopathological practice. The first Italian Chair of Philosophy of Psychopathology has been held in Rome in the year 2004, at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Sapienza University.
